Well the hero voice packs shouldn't be necessarily related to a single avatar. Some generic evil, generic good voices too work with as many avatars possible is preferred. Then again, now that I think about it, a reptilian voice set would be awesome (would have long 'S'-s like the naga).

About the number of files, there should be at least 4 order & select files, since the hero is the most used unit in the game; variety is a must. 3 spell files are enough though, since spells aren't cast all that often and even if they are, the gibber-jabber isn't as memorable as actual intelligible words (and therefore not as deranging). The remaining categories should have just 1 file, like the rest of the sets. This numbering is also hard-coded in the game source, so going beyond them would mean extra work for programmers (namely me Neutral ). In version 0.8.4, all units can have up to 11 order and 11 select files, so consider that a maximum.

A reptilian voice could be interesting, although only usable for the ssrathi. A generic set usable from plague to daemon, elfs to humans is cleaver. Let me do some homework in my lab...

I suppose you could also do some remixing of the clear voices to make them sound evil and unearthly (like the Summoner files or the classic technique of overlapping many different voices onto one).

Also zeto, don't worry about the limit increase, I did it out of pure love for Grond's extra speech files. Razz

Don't worry I'm not going to go crazy recolouring hero avatars What a Face.

I'm planning on 2 new Daemon avatars (that red orc and probably a red dark elf), 1-2 new Ssrathi avatars (depending upon if I can find something to use for a female Ssrathi. I was thinking of the Snakepriest for that but that's a normal unit so it could be difficult to distinguish between the hero and Snakepriests unless the golden ring command radius thing gets implemented) and 1 new Minotaur avatar (no idea what I'll use for this. A resized, brown Minotaur King maybe?).

Careful when using units as hero avatars: all frames must be included, especially the casting spell and converting animations.

There’s a README inside each part, with more detailed info as usual.

I don't suppose we could use anything from here could we? I mean there's copyrighted stuff on there so those are a definite no-no but I think there may also be some good user-made stuff which we could potentially ask about Smile.

I looked into it, mostly Hikaro Takayama’s sounds because I am really lost on Ssrathis’s Female voice… All my voice acting connections do not want to work for free! Perhaps you shouldn’t worry too much on her avatar Joe.


We can use a lot of Sfx from that site but creating Sfx is very easy to work around tough. But tell me more Joe, what do you have in mind? Maybe you can help me out with “inspiration”. See, I even tried to work out a part 4 for heroes (I'm gonna work on part3 today). But the outcome was so insanely experimental, that I simply pull out the idea (like a Frankenstein hero, a doom guardian hero and crazy female experiences. I even recorded an African barbarian leader with my own voice… just for fun, then I realized that there are no black avatars, sadly).


A side note: Patrick, save “death bringer” voice set for Kharn’s experiment please.

I can do a pinky-purple snake priest for a female ssrathi avatar, a greenish-tan recolour of the blue snakeman, a red daemon orc, a red daemon dark elf (this one is probably the most needed), a small brown minotaur king (are there any female minotaurs in lore?) and an ogre chieftain hero. Oh yeah also some new artwork for the standard Imperial hero avatar is desperately needed - almost all of them are Elven (even the default portrait! Shocked). Are there any portraits we can grab from WBC1, WBC2 or any of the Warlords universe artwork?

When the Barbarians level up, they can turn black! affraid  lol!

I like the red daemon for orcs and dark elfs. The Ogre chieftain (you already have a voice set for a regular unit) and the other reptiles lack a proper spell animation and/or conversion animation, as Pat already pointed out (you would need extra work on editing their attack move or something, right?). Just my opinion and also, I don’t know if this count for the outcome but it will be almost impossible to get a female Ssrathi and a female Minotaur hero voice set… I think it will be for the best focusing on a gold dragon for high elfs, a red daemon hero and a Chieftain Ogre regular unit. I’m not demanding, just suggesting! Twisted Evil

I was thinking, what if Scarabs and Scorpions laid eggs in their victims like the Queen Spider? There'd be a lot more 'swarm' in the swarm, that's for sure! What a Face

Spiders fit the swarm also. the swarm eggs could bring random units (spiders, scarabs and scorpions).

Also, what about using balora and tempest recolored avatars to create some new unique floating or flying heroes (I would prefer the first)? It would help the lack of avatars on barbarian, deamon, minotaur and ssrathi. those heroes could convert on islands (until boats function properly). The resizing won’t be a problem, I think? But conversion and spells animations…  Someone had this idea already, but can’t remember where or who.

The main problem is that NO unit has a spell casting animation other than the existing hero avatars. To make new hero avatars we HAVE TO create new animations.

Would love to do that Smile. We could get around the spell casting and conversion animation by using the attack animation for spells and face-down fidget for conversion, sort of like Maestorak's weird exe which allowed any unit to convert or cast spells.

Also, chocolate unicorn! Yeah I know I messed up slightly on the top 4, whatever lol. Just showing it can be cooked up Wink.

Cool. Is this horse to be neutral? Like cows and sheep? Some wild horses attacking all sorts of ground units could be interesting. You can also use it as a Minotaur unit instead of gooses and it can actually attack enemies, scout and feed your army.

Looks good! The game needed more neutral critters anyway. Horses are harmless in the wilderness though, they would act like sheep.
