 Missing Doom Knight?

PostSubject: Missing Doom Knight?    Sat Mar 23, 2013 8:17 pm

I looked through the patch notes , but couldn't find anything regarding this, as I was just playing skirmish mode on patch version 7.1 and noticed that my beloved Doom Knight is absent from the undead army's units , though its related damage upgrades via the cage are still there. Was this intentional ? is the Doom Knight gone from the undead faction entirely? and if so, do you plan on re-introducign him in a later patch ? just curious, as it was my favorite infantry unit ;_; . Thank you for your time .

It is intentional. Some units have been removed from production and can be gained only through retinue, quests, campaign, events etc.

I was a little butthurt when wraiths / shadows were gone too, but the old skeleton voice for the floating skulls made up for it, hahah. Also classic slayer knights were always my favorite too.

I was more just excited to hear the classic WBC voice acting for em, which I have yet to test out.

Relax, the Doom Knight and most of the missing units have been added for production in 0.8.4

Well nothing is nailed to the wall but so far, the units that are excluded are:

  • Wraiths and Shadows from the undead (they have the floating skull to compensate)
  • Trolls from the orcs (they have crushing damage from goblins, goblin chiefs, gobshooters, ogres and giants)
  • Wyvern from high elves (no need to have two types of fliers)
  • Unicorn from high elves (no need to have two types of cavalry)
  • Treant from wood elves (obtainable through the death of an ancient treant)

That's about it!

I vote for trolls (that sounds strange) as a new neutral unit with proper building or incorporte trolls with neutral goblins. With a necromancer you can make shadows and wraiths, and shadows with ilusion magic but About the unicorn: I think you should remove life rune from high elf skills then. My 2 cents.

What couple might that be? The thing is, the more versatile a race is, the stronger and overbalanced it is in comparison with other races.

Since high Elfs are about magic (as their dark cousins), live runes could give x% life for Mystics (or all spellcasters so you can have the same ability playing with diverse races).

I think the High Elf change is good; Unicorns were considerably overused and Wyverns never really fit the High Elves anyway. I am sad to see Wraiths, Shadows, Treants and to a lesser extent Trolls go though.

Personally, I think Life Rune should unlock a different unit. Possibly a new recoloured unit would be best (Silver/Golden Unicorn? Lunar/Celestial Wyvern? Some sort of Dragon Knight Paladin? A small golden dragon? Or perhaps something else).

in 0.8.3, AI is building Trolls. As long as you give him Prisons... (but no Thralls whatsoever). If this is a bug or a preference, I just want to say that this situation is interesting, because I'm concerned about what kind of role do trolls play in future versions (human and AI).
